Colleagues:
I am looking for a partner for my research at St. Jude. I will still be here -
this is to expand - enhance our work in the rehabilitation/exercise medicine
survivorship arena - because my amazing team is so productive - we are in
demand and I am the only faculty level person at St. Jude doing this work.
Ideally, this would be a person interested with some experience in cancer
survivorship and/or pediatric rehabilitation/exercise medicine who would like
to work in a resource rich environment with a great team of multidisciplinary
investigators in oncology, cardiology, psychology, neuroscience, radiology,
diagnostic imaging and anything you can think of in basic science. We have a
collaborative work group that includes a DI team from Washington University and
a new prevention outreach program for HPV.
The individual should have a history of some funding and publications
commensurate with rank of Associate or Full Professor (it is called member
here). Early career investigators would be considered if you have a record of
some funding and impactful publications.
St. Jude is home to both the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and the St. Jude
Lifetime Cohort Study and the only NCI Designated Cancer Center dedicated to
the treatment of children. We also have populations with other hematological
conditions, chronic infectious diseases and other catastrophic diseases of
childhood. I started my position here 15 years ago and the work has expanded
from observing outcomes in adult survivors of childhood cancer to include
careful clinical and PRO characterization of function (from impairment to
participation) in the SJLIFE cohort to now careful characterization of children
with cancer from diagnosis going forward. We have multiple intervention
studies for children with cancer and survivors both where we designed the
intervention and/or we measure the outcome. The lab is in demand for
assessment and intervention by investigators across (and some from outside) the
institution. My lab team has six members and we collaborate for intervention
in children on therapy with a great rehab team that includes PT, OT, SLP and
audiology. The department has a huge staff of study coordinators and personnel
so we centralize recruitment and data management. I am the faculty member
responsible for the SJLIFE data and supervise all the data analysts. It is a
stimulating and exciting place to work.
There are lots of opportunities to explore your own interests in our rich
patient and survivor populations.
We have a T32 training grant for post-doctoral students and also several
institutionally funded post-doctoral positions. I currently have two post-docs.
Memphis is a livable city with a great cost of living. I live 22 miles from
St. Jude and ride my bike to work in the summer (when light). The running
community is outstanding and the biking is great! I am a Minnesota transplant
and really love it here. The weather is so much better. I hear the BBQ is
good but I am a vegetarian so don't really know.
Thus - if you know of someone with interest, please have them contact me!
Regards!
