The aim is to explore the meaning, significance and foundation of concepts of solidarity and social cohesion in media ethics. The PhD thesis should – in parts empirically – deal with the role of information technology for social integration. Amongst others, questions of identity formation, confidentiality, authenticity and the functions of algorithms are important in this context. The junior research group offers comprehensive support both for research and writing the PhD thesis and preparing lectures and first publications. Applicants should have German language skills, both written and spoken, they may, however, conduct their research and present their findings in English. Prerequisite for a successful application is an above-average university degree in social sciences or related disciplines and interest and previous knowledge in media and/or information ethics. Our candidate should be able to work independently and contribute explicitly to the research group’s profile. We expect the candidate to be willing to work and collaborate in an interdisciplinary context and to advance the own discipline as well as to develop ideas for transdisciplinary research. The position is open as early as possible and limited to 2 years with an optional one-year extension. The University of Tübingen actively seeks to foster career opportunities for female researchers and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply. Equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference. Applications should be submitted electronically no later than April 1st, 2013. They should include the outline of a research project (no more than 3 pages) and the usual documents. Please send your documents to jessica.heesen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:jessica.heesen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> For further information please contact: Dr. Jessica Heesen International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen Wilhelmstr. 19 72074 Tübingen Germany -- Anthony F.
