"Actually, they have hidden water barriers and flame jets installed on
most of the turns, including the corkscrews," Silas answered to
Keavy's suspicions. "They will likely be timed much like the hidden
spikes. It will be all your jobs to figure out the timing intervals and
communicate it to the rest of the group. Your on-board computers
should be able to help you maintain accurate clocks once its input with
the values."

Seeing that the simulation was already at the end of the track
segement and moving onto the next, Silas continued. "There is
another corkscrew, same specifications, but then the track runs
through a short tunnel before opening up into clear track. The tunnel
is unlit and there are no obstacles to get in your way, anywhere along
this segement." Silas paused. "However, that also means that
everyone's an open target."

"What do you mean?" Billy asked.

"He means that your opponents won't be busy dodging pillars or
walls," Jory replied. "They'll be focusing storming down the track and
making sure that you don't."

The fear that crept on Billy's face was fortunately hidden inside his
cockpit. "Oh."

"Jory's right," Silas affirmed. "This tunnel is just over four gears
wide. There is a lot of maneuvering room. Expect heavy fire fighting
and melee combat here. Keavy and Julliette, if you wanted a place to
show off your vibrosword skills this is the place."

[...]

"Billy and Shamus, this is where I would recommend that you too get as
much speed as your gears can pump out. The track is wide enough that
you should be able to maneuver to pass any slower gears that got ahead
of you in the earlier segements." Silas' tone shifted. "Actually,
everyone should be carefull not to get caught in the middle of a large
pack in this segment, and you can bet that every racer is going to try
the same."
