Comrades,

On Tuesday Oregon's House of Representatives passed HB 2005, an expansion
of equal pay protection. (Check out the coalition 1-pager on the issue
<http://oregonforbernie.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7d9181b3e8278d2f010ae730&id=4bb08ca00f&e=9aa377e618>.)
It's now headed to the senate. That's the good news.

The bad news is that four democrats joined republicans in voting for an
amendment that would have gutted the law. The harmful amendment failed, but
it came within one vote of succeeding because of these democrats. The
concern is now for how those four democrats might vote in the future. Our
friends at Our Oregon are asking that people call and/or email the
legislators to reinforce the electorate's interest in progressive values.
They're asking for people to call as individuals, rather than stating that
they're members of any particular vote. The idea is to flood their phones
and inboxes with the voices of progressive voters.

Here are the legislators and their contact information:
*Rep. Brian Clem* - 503-986-1421 <(503)%20986-1421> -  Rep.BrianClem@

*Rep. Brad Witt* - 503-986-1431 <(503)%20986-1431> - Rep.BradWitt@
oregonlegislature.gov
*Rep. Debbie Boone* - 503-986-1432 <(503)%20986-1432> - Rep.DeborahBoone@

*Rep. Jeff Reardon* - 503-986-1448 <(503)%20986-1448> - Rep.JeffReardon@

Here is a sample script, with the caveat that it’s always better to adjust
it to use your own language, so they aren’t seeing the same email over and
over again:

Dear Representative - I am calling to say I am disappointed in your vote
for HB 2005A, the minority report to the Equal Pay law. That amendment,
would it have passed, would have protected discriminatory employers while
hurting workers - especially women, people of color, and LGBT workers.

We urge you to stand up to rollbacks to workers’ rights, and ask that in
these times of federal rollbacks of worker protections do everything in
your power to stand up for employees across your district and across the
state.

Thank you, _______________________ (your name)

Thanks for helping out with this! Let’s keep the pressure on our state
legislators to do the right thing.

In solidarity,
