I'm writing to ask your help with an effort to increase public
participation in the hiring process for the next Portland Police Chief. A
group of people from several different organizations have drafted a guide
to the points we'd like to push in the community input survey, and we need
your help to share it as wide as possible!
Wheeler's survey will close on June 12th. When our group met with Chloe
Eudaly a few weeks back, she emphasized that *the majority of calls that
City Hall gets about policing are in favor of current practices.* This
doesn't reflect the Portland I know, and I want to be sure that as many
voices as possible are heard and counted in this process.

This guide was initially drafted by James Ofsink, Greg McKelvey and Kim
Mason. Several others have helped shape it. Ultimately, the guide doesn't
have an 'owner' as it is intended for all organizations to use in whole or
part, modified or whole-cloth, to encourage their own members to

Please consider helping out by emailing your lists, posting on your
websites and social media, and announcing it at your upcoming events and
