Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church I pray you are finding numerous reasons to give thanks for your life experience. Last Sunday we celebrated the historical pouring out of God's 'holy' spirit into the world, a consequence of the fulfillment of Jesus's human witness to the Hebrew people. The holy spirit comes to broaden the witness of Jesus by extending it beyond the borders of the Jewish community. Previously the content of Jesus's ministry was restricted to enlighten the Israelite family. After Pentecost, however, this same divine insight became accessible to the entire human family. The divine spirit functions to present the case of Jesus-the meaning of his life and teaching-to the entire world. The holy spirit extends to every individual the same invitation: repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand. Repentance transforms any person, rebirthing them into a familial relationship with the creator God. All who respond to this divine testimony become children of God and thereby participate in the life that God has intended for the creation. Jesus set this process in motion, yet 'he' was not the end but the means to the end. The 'way' of Jesus has been displayed as the essential objective of the holy spirit's summons, the example of the life God desires for us all. These thoughts will compose the sermon for this next Sunday, 'The mediation of God's invitation to life.' May it go well with you. Sincerely, Garland Robertson ...always hold firmly to the thought that each one of us can do something to bring some portion of misery to an end
