Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church

I pray you are finding strength and encouragement as you contemplate the devotion of Jesus to the calling he sensed in his spirit while in the earth.

Living in the earth challenges the capacities of humans not only because of the limitations of our knowledge but also because of our ability to be deceived.  Perhaps in the future world when God’s kingdom reigns we will be relieved of this reality.  Martin Luther comments that in that new earth we will be unable to sin.  The human creature is a complex combination of curiosity and desire and until our rescue these components will prompt us to search for ways to satisfy our longings for fulfillment and contentment.  Sometimes the things that attract us and appear to be good—able to bring us a measure of enrichment—prove to be inadequate or even detrimental to us.  At best our lives are an adventure of making uncertain choices.  Maybe the best we can hope for is that nothing will happen to us or those close to us that we cannot recover from.  And this seems to be the assurance promised to us in the scriptures we will consider today.  Sinfulness is a characteristic of us all, yet so is the gift to us of grace and redemption.

The scriptures we will consider this next Sunday are Genesis 2:17-19, 3:1-7; Mathew 4:1-11; and Romans 5:12-19.  Thoughts prompted by these passages will compose the sermon, 'Knowing how to be satisfied.'

The announcements follow below and the Worship Schedule for March 2011 is both copied below and attached.

May it go well with you. Sincerely,
Garland Robertson
