Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church

I pray you are expectant as you anticipate the adventures and discoveries awaiting us in the new year.

A star lead pilgrimage wise persons to the place where they would worship the son of God. The birth of Jesus began a new age of enlightenment that continues today—an era when humankind will see more clearly the intention of God for creation. Announcements regarding the presence of Jesus indicate that he will inaugurate a purifying phase of human history during which all that is not characteristic of the divine intention will be reconciled to God. Offering one’s self in commitment to follow the way of Jesus is to begin a personal pilgrimage in a quest for the vision and fulfillment of the day of the Lord—the time when all creation will be subject to the desires of God for humanity. This commitment is a baptism of purpose, a cleansing of one’s will by an intention to honor the life and teachings of Jesus. There is another power at work in creation also. This power is the operation of the holy spirit, the influence of the wisdom of God in human affairs. Although sometimes unrecognized and often indistinguishable, this power is at work, not only discriminating between good and evil but also regulating the reach of these integrated forces. Baptism by the holy spirit will separate good from evil, a recreation in which some persons will agonize over this reconstruction while others will celebrate the coming of heaven to earth. Living through this recreation is our destiny.

These thoughts will compose the sermon, 'The dawn of recreation.' The scriptures to be addressed are Isaiah 43:1-7; Luke 3:15-17, 21-22; and Acts 8:14-17.

May it go well with you. Sincerely,
Garland Robertson
