An Austin Tradition for the past 18 years, the Thanksgiving Service brings together people from many different faith traditions, each year in a different house of worship. The event celebrates both unity as God's people and diversity of religious tradition. As in past years the day will comprise Protestants, Catholics, Baha'is, Hindu's, Muslims, Jews, Sikh's and Buddhists but this year there will be something different. All of the expressions of faith will be given by Austin's children. They come together as faith communities to celebrate being brothers and sisters, to sing, to dance and to give thanks for our many blessings. At its core, Thanksgiving is an act of humility and we have so much to be thankful for. We have been showered by our Creator with abundant gifts of love, forgiveness and grace. We look forward to this time when we can celebrate together as One World - One Family. As has been a tradition at the service, an offering will be collected to support AAIM Programs. This has been Austin Area Interreligious Ministries most successful year ever. We have served more of Austin's than in any other year of our history. AAIM has engaged in unprecedented dialogues, reconciling people of different racial and religious backgrounds and we have greeted leaders from around the world to give them a first hand experience of the power of interreligious cooperation. At the same time we have been very hard hit by the downturn in the economy and our needs for community support are very great. Your contribution to help the elderly facing a winter in substandard living conditions, to assist a youth in learning life values that will help them live a life of joy and to support people fleeing from war torn countries will make all the difference in the world. Congratulations Father Sam and Parishioners of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church The Parishioners of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church in Round Rock are proud to announce the dedication of their new 26,250 square foot Sanctuary. In keeping with the parishs theme since inception - All are welcome in this space, Central Texans of all faiths are invited to come, celebrate, and share in this joyous occasion. A reception will immediately follow the dedication at 12:30 p.m. A concert and dance will wrap up the first day festivities at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively. Sunday Mass will be held at 8:30 AM with a Youth Mass at 10:30 a.m. The annual parish festival begins at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Located on a hill in northeast Round Rock, the nearly 100 foot tall church towers over the surrounding community as a beacon of faith. A modern Texas limestone steeple and bell tower supports the roof and clerestory windows, anchoring the Sanctuary. Soaring spaces filled with an abundance of natural light, native wood and limestone define the sacred space and elevate the senses. The 1,200-seat church will house the Parishs 16 - foot tall Crucifix, which was carved by Austinite Dr. William Cherico from a Live Oak tree felled in a storm. A modern interpretation of a traditional cruciform design, the church also incorporates 100-year-old antique Gothic stained-glass windows from nearby Bremond, Texas into the updated architecture. The parish was founded on September 1, 1997, and has grown to more than 523 families. The Sanctuary is the culmination of nearly five years of parish stewardship, planning and prayer. St John Vianney is unique in that it is a stewardship parish where members share their time, treasure, and talent for the greater good of the faith community. Through Stewardship, the facility was built without a traditional fundraising campaign. In addition, Parishioners and local artisans designed and built the liturgical artwork and furnishings, including the Altar, Tabernacle, ambo, Ambry and holy oil vessels, Sanctuary Lantern, sanctuary furniture, Stations of the Cross, copper doors, and crucifix.
