There is no way around it really...you either have to have an extra
of each size, each color (and build it into your pricing!)
or hope and pray you don't ruin one.
Buying a couple extra is usually less expensive than having to pay to
get ONE or two pieces sent...shipping costs alone
can be the same as a shirt or two.
If they are going to be re ordering, then you know you will use it
eventually....
the 'large' shops that have fancy catalogs, etc.-will have cases of
everything on hand that is in their catalog-so they
just reach in the box and grab another one. But they will or might
have limited selection available...so that they can afford
to keep stock on hand.
Us little guys have to figure it out differently.
If you are careful with production, you stop as soon as you produce
the correct number...and leave the extras blank (unless
you can get them to agree to buy them). Problem can be if you are
doing front and back...and first side all are perfect...then
you screw up the back of one...you have to start over with a new one
from the beginning.
It's all a gamble...but you MUST learn to price up small quantities
to allow for a couple percent screwups!
Any quantity under 4 dozen or so, you have to have a profit built in
to cover at least 2 defectives, maybe 3 for 100,
4 for 200, etc. Usually as you do higher quantities you screw up
fewer per 100...so you can shave your profit margin
on the big orders.
