Back in the late sixties, early seventies we used to call them work shirts
and embroidered them by hand. AH the pleasures of youth!

To throw in my 2 cents, denim is a twill weave. Also, chambray yarn is dyed
before it is woven (the colored warp comment). Chambray is a type of shirt
in a Simon and Garfunkel song. :)

Well, you're familiar with oxford, right? The fabric they make men's oxford
shirts of? It has a slightly nubby texture. Chambray looks like oxford but
is smooth, no texture. Don't often see it at the chain fabric stores, but
you never know. There was a book with swatches in it of different fabrics,
but I can't remember where I saw it.

I have to admit, I get frustrated by fabric terms and their real
counterparts. I would love to make (or buy!!!) a book with definitions and
real samples.
Anyone know of such a thing? I guess I could go to the fabric store.....
