Can you update the machines you have now with the new arm or only update your software? regards, Beverly thompson perdido beach embroidery ----- Original Message ----- From: Rod or Sharon To: amayausers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 4:59 PM Subject: [amayausers] Re: Thread feed roller update!! The new OS takes away all the guess work on material thickness--it automatically adjusts. That, in conjunction with the new cylinder arm on the new machines, makes caps so nice to sew. The new cap frame has only one metal strap to go across the cap so you can sew within nearly (approx.) 1/4 inch from the bill of the cap which gives us a tiny bit more space for embroidery. You don't have to trade out needle plates--you sew with the flat one. The round arm allows the caps to sit right down on the needle plate almost eliminating any flagging so you stitch better and faster. They have sewn at 1500 but in class we sewed at 1200 without any problems and embroidery looked great. There is a little difference in the way you hoop the cap. Melco is really fine tuning our machines and software! Sharon By the way, Ron, poor ole Rod is still on the road. He had to fly to Fort Worth to teach a class as soon as we got home from Denver. ----- Original Message ----- From: Body Cover To: amayausers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 17, 2005 2:07 PM Subject: [amayausers] Re: Thread feed roller update!! When we first started our cap drivers weren't adjusted as well as they could be. we didn't understand the thread feed system as well as we do now, and we got frustrated with thread breaks and poor sew quality in the center of the hat. Like I just told someone off list, once we put our mind to it and decided to not be afraid to do hats and concentrated on solving the problems instead of complaining about them things got much easier, now we run hats daily and have few problems. Pointers that we learned you can't take too much time to make sure the hat is hooped well and as close to the needle plate as possible. Slow the machine down, we rarely run over 850 SPM manually adjust items in the center to create a wider sew pattern (add pull compensation) or just digitize items in the middle section wider. loosen up the bobbin thread to the steady slow drop level. and those are the things that made the biggest difference for us. Hope it helps some others out there. I read so many comments about caps and the fear involved with them. I can honestly say after reading several posts, I also was quite apprehensive about doing caps. But I had a big run for a golf course and I ran the caps with no problems at all. 6 dozen without a problem. What exactly is the fear with doing caps? Sorry everyone if this is a duplicate of previous comments. We have not seen the group chatter for nearly a month. Rod and I just returned home from a wonderful 2 1/2 week vacation in Vermont and week at more tech training in Denver. We learned that the older style black rollers are no longer available for order so we will all be converting one day to the new yellow rollers. It is, however, really important to keep them free from oil (and don't clean them with rubbing alcohol--just soapy water) as was mentioned below. The new Amayas are incredible and you will love them for caps. The updates to Design Shop are also really neat!!! Debbie, If you lift up the little arm that has the red roller attached to it and peek under the arm of the red thread roller, the rubber should show through as a bright yellow (new ones) not black rubber.(old ones) cr Cheryl Rotter Team Sports Ink 5111 Grumann Dr. Ste #1B Carson City, NV 89706 775-884-3550 -----Original Message----- From: amayausers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:amayausers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of r.rinehartsr Sent: Sunday, October 16, 2005 5:58 PM To: amayausers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [amayausers] Re: Thread feed roller update!! Hey guys. Ed Orantes here. As for the new rollers, I was excited to learn of the improvements made to the entire thread feed roller system, not only the roller itself. If you didn't have any issues with your rollers before, replacing them periodically or not, then you shouldn't have any issues with the improved rollers as well. And if you did have issues with the previous rollers, then you'll really like the changes. Sure there's an initial cost with the yellow rollers, however in time, you should see a cost savings with respect to replacing them. Know that the current thread feed roller outer surface is yellow in color, no longer black, and improvements have been made in the rubber material, hub or axle of the roller, larger opening in the window of the new roller cover and ridges exist along the edge of the red pressure roller on top to add grippage(?) to the thread. So you see, it's not simply just a new roller but more an improved roller system. So when it's time to order more rollers, be sure to ask for the kit and not the only the rollers themselves. I've been using mine for several months now, not including time lost from Storm Runnin', and am pleased with what I see. Only precautions are to keep them free from oil and grease on the rubber surface. ...Which we should be observing no matter what rollers we're using. Also note that with the improved thread grippage(?), good results have been found running with a Material Thickness setting approximately one digit higher than with the older black rollers. The thread feed rollers serve two purposes.. one) to deliver the thread needed prior to the stitch, and two) holding on to the thread (without slippage) as the take up lever rises to the top of it's stroke to tighten the knot formed between the thread and bobbin on the underside of the garment. I only saw this "upgrade" as a positive and looked forward to having my Amayas equipped just as the latest machines. Just my thoughts.. I'm sure Jeff Banks can correct me if I'm wrong. The lady I talked to tells me the package contains 16 of each - New rollers- New roller covers (black thing with the groove) New Red rollers (don't know if they have arms too or just rollers) I also understand except for the few complaints we have read here, that they work quite well and have an expected life of a least a year! were the old ones are substantially less than that. I am looking forward to removing one more variable when it comes to looking for thread feed problems. I am trying to look for the positive. I too am not happy being forced into an upgrade when I didn't have problems with the old ones but, from the big corporate viewpoint if you have a better solution and it saves money and tech time trying to solve problems then I guess we should be happy they took the time to research and develop new rollers at all instead of looking at the old rollers as a profit center. I'll keep you all updated. Hey all, Just thought I'd drop in again and let every one know that didn't know (like me) but, I just had ordered this morning from Melco, some of the old thread feed rollers. and they called back later to tell me that Melco is no longer selling the old thread feed rollers. if you need some you either need to know someone who will sell you some of their extras or make your own, OR, upgrade for $95 to the new system. So hopefully all will go well when our first set shows up in a few days. I didn't realize that they were not going to support both systems. since I don't have much trouble with the old system. So just an FYI for anyone that might have needed more. you'll need to switch to the new system.
