  Debbie,

If you lift up the little arm that has the red roller attached to it and peek
under the arm of the red thread roller, the rubber should show through as a
bright yellow (new ones) not black rubber.(old ones)

Hey Ed, Can you tell me if I just bought my Amaya the middle of this past
August, does it have the new rollers or the old. All I can see is the red
roller. Thanks, Debbie in Indiana

    Hey guys. Ed Orantes here.

As for the new rollers, I was excited to learn of the improvements made to
the entire thread feed roller system, not only the roller itself. If you
didn't have any issues with your rollers before, replacing them periodically or
not, then you shouldn't have any issues with the improved rollers as well. And
if you did have issues with the previous rollers, then you'll really like the
changes.

Sure there's an initial cost with the yellow rollers, however in time, you
should see a cost savings with respect to replacing them.

Know that the current thread feed roller outer surface is yellow in color,
no longer black, and improvements have been made in the rubber material, hub or
axle of the roller, larger opening in the window of the new roller cover and
ridges exist along the edge of the red pressure roller on top to add
grippage(?) to the thread. So you see, it's not simply just a new roller but
more an improved roller system. So when it's time to order more rollers, be
sure to ask for the kit and not the only the rollers themselves.

I've been using mine for several months now, not including time lost from
Storm Runnin', and am pleased with what I see.

Only precautions are to keep them free from oil and grease on the rubber
surface. ...Which we should be observing no matter what rollers we're using.
Also note that with the improved thread grippage(?), good results have been
found running with a Material Thickness setting approximately one digit higher
than with the older black rollers.

The thread feed rollers serve two purposes.. one) to deliver the thread
needed prior to the stitch, and two) holding on to the thread (without
slippage) as the take up lever rises to the top of it's stroke to tighten the
knot formed between the thread and bobbin on the underside of the garment.

I only saw this "upgrade" as a positive and looked forward to having my
Amayas equipped just as the latest machines.

    Just my thoughts..

I'm sure Jeff Banks can correct me if I'm wrong.

The lady I talked to tells me the package contains

16 of each - New rollers- New roller covers (black thing with the groove)

New Red rollers (don't know if they have arms too or just rollers)

I also understand except for the few complaints we have read here,

that they work quite well and have an expected life of a least a year!

were the old ones are substantially less than that.

I am looking forward to removing one more variable when it comes

to looking for thread feed problems. I am trying to look for the positive.

I too am not happy being forced into an upgrade when I didn't have

problems with the old ones but, from the big corporate viewpoint

if you have a better solution and it saves money and tech time

trying to solve problems then I guess we should be happy they

took the time to research and develop new rollers at all instead of

looking at the old rollers as a profit center.

      I'll keep you all updated.

I hope the new rollers really last as long as they say they will
because each one cost $5.80 for replacement.

          Thank You Wendy!

This just irritates me!! There is nothing wrong with the old rollers
and if I am not mistaken people have been complaining about the new ones,
aren't they?

What if not all of my rollers need to be replaced? What is the
upgrade?

          Thanks,

That really irritates me. They aren't going to offer the old roller
so basically we are FORCED to pay $95 to upgrade??? I don't like that at
all!!!!! I have never had that much trouble with the old system and do not like
being forced into spending my hard earned money on something that is unecessary.

              Hey all,

Just thought I'd drop in again and let every one know that didn't
know (like me)

but, I just had ordered this morning from Melco, some of the old
thread feed rollers.

and they called back later to tell me that Melco is no longer
selling the old thread feed rollers.

if you need some you either need to know someone who will sell
you some

of their extras or make your own, OR, upgrade for $95 to the new
system.

So hopefully all will go well when our first set shows up in a
few days.

I didn't realize that they were not going to support both systems.

since I don't have much trouble with the old system.

So just an FYI for anyone that might have needed more.

you'll need to switch to the new system.
