Lou,

What you may be referring to is called " Auto-split". You can hi-lite any 
satin stitch element , right click on it, select "Properties", select the 
"column" tab and then  towards the middle right side of this screen is a 
check box named "Auto-split". Check this box and click apply--you can change 
the parameters of the width of the columns here also. Play with these 
settings. You can change the column width to where the rows will almost 
simulate corduroy in appearance.

You can also take any fill stitch element and change the stitch type to 
satin stitch, in the drop down menu,  and then use the auto split to arrive 
at some very interesting effects too..

I would have to check and see if this feature is available in all levels of 
Design Shop..I cannot remember right off hand....what level of Design Shop 
are you currently running?
