Have you tried a 'steamer' to get rid of solvy? We got a great 'hand' travel steamer from Oreck and it works great to remove the solvy. I also have a commercial 'clothing' steamer I use for costumes and stuff-but that take too long to warm up and is too large for this. Because it is steam it dries instantly-also removes the hoop burn! They has a promo going on them at the Great Notions demo in Portland. I did not like having to get them wet to remove the backing. They needed ironing after and just did not look very good. Am going to try again with your density settings. I ruined 1 trying different density, column width. underlay etc. but I finally got it. I would stitch one word from the poem, stop the machine and adjust accordingly. Now that I have the right combination I just Change the names and dates and I did 3 last night. About 30 minutes each. Where do you get your hankies from? I purchased mine from Boutrouss Imports. Nice Irish Linen only about $3 each. I haven't sold any yet, just keep making them for friends and family. Hoping someone from the outside will see them and order for themselves. Why didn't you like the solvy? I used water soluble stabilizer on back and solvy on top - seemed to make it "thicker" for the sewing process. When done, the threads were easy to clip without catching the hanky, trimmed excess backing then soaked in water. Joyce, I would love to see the poem for the friend! Thanks for the offer. I also tried this after the wife sold several sets before we had done any. Wanted to strangle her before the day was over. Ruined several before I got 2 that were okay. My question is what MT did you use. I like the no backing idea. I used the water soluble and hated it. Also my friend wrote one for the friend of the bride. If you are interested in that one I will share it with you. Have a great day. Joyce Evelyn Runge <erunge@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Joyce, Thanks for your help - I will keep these stats for future reference. I was finally able to make these things work. I am a BIG believer in 60 wt thread now - it really made a difference. I also used the water soluble backing from Floriani. It looks like a thin cut away but it dissolves in water. Kind of cool! Is your poem the same as the one offered at the embroidery workshop put on by Great Notions? That's what I'm using. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joyce Charlton <mailto:joycesthreads@xxxxxxxxx> To: amayausers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, October 11, 2005 4:54 PM Subject: [amayausers] Re: Need help with handkerchief I have been embroidering a poem onto handerkerchiefs and here is what I found works for me. Use #60 weight thread. Font is elegans-dak letter height I use is .303 Letter width is 120 Width is 120 Density is 8 no underlay Hope this helps. I do not use backing. It sews out great without any thread breaks. Good luck! I have been fighting this hankerchief for a week now. I am embroidering a poem, script font on a linen handkerchief for a wedding. Black thread, letters are .5". I've tried all kinds of combinations, 110% to 150% column width, 3.5 - 5.0 density, no underlay, walk stitch underlay, zigzag underlay and a combination of both. I either get lots of thread breaks, or the bobbin shows through the top. Material thickness from 2-4. I'm not real picky about font, just want something fancy. I love Diane Script but it just won't run that small. Has anybody ever done a hankerchief? If so, can you help with some guidelines? I think I've just looked at this on so much I'm missing the obvious. Any help is appreciated. PS two weddings this Saturday! Thanks, Evelyn Express It With Thread Virginia Beach Yahoo!
