Roland,
Re-engaged memory function...........
I had read somewhere that you could take the solufab and use it as backing.
You need to fuse two pieces (or more depending on the fabric) together by
sandwiching them between 2 sheets on paper like grocery bags are made of.
Use a med temp iron and they will fuse together. Let it cool and hoop away.
Was many stitches ago, memory fading again.

I looked in my Melco catalog-all I find is the solvy for 'top' sewing...do you have the stock # for the backing? Roland

Herb,
When the backing is gone what happens to the thread. Does it get loose and loopy?

MELCO has a water soluble backing. I have used it in heavy terrycloth with excellent results.

my 2¢= heavy cut away, you're correct-tear away is rough and a mock turtle is going to be snug on the neck. I do the same for polo shirts even though I hate to see that 'patch' showing through the shirt if its worn snug. I've heard of a water soluable backing somewhere but don't know much about it-that would be great! Its not solvy, but a heavier backing, maybe some sort of loose 'felt' type stuff-so eventually all excess would be washed off the back and leave just the embroidery and the felt sewn into that.

Hey,
I am sewing block letters on a mock turtle neck collar. What backing would you use? I was going to use tear away. Tear away might be too rough.....
