satin stitch shouldn't be used any wider than 3/8" or so-or one snag and the 
whole column will pull out. If the monogram is that big, I would set it up as 
'art', not a font-and then play with different fill patterns until something 
looks good. Even large letters on hats-I get better results than trying to use 
satin stitch.
I would take your large hoop, hoop up a couple pieces of backing, then fill the 
area (in design shop) with 'boxes' 1" x 3" and fill each one with a different 
fill pattern so you can have a sew out to look at and see which fill might 
simulate a satin stitch. Maybe someone here that does quilt 'squares' has done 
something like this so they could help you out.
