OK, I got the scoop on this Group Names thing. I put in a call the Cynthia,
the trainer in Calif. She said if you do the following it will all work
correctly.

My goal was to actually see what name was going to sew next, because I had a
bunch of duffel bags that has already been distributed to the girls and then
collected up for me to put their names on. So, a particular name had to go on
a particular bag. This is how it is done:

In DS Plus Pro (not sure if it would work in lesser versions) bring in the
design first. Then hit the A (for the font engine) hold the curser where you
want the center of the names and hit Enter. This bring up the box where you
input all the parameters for your names,i.e., height, density, bold, etc and
check group, click on the box to the rt of that and enter the names or import
the text file of the names. Select any or all of the names and get them on the
right side. Thes, then, are the names that will sew out. Now, here is where
it is a little different from what I was doing. Instead of clicking "design,
Name, Repeat" choose "Save as separate files". Anyway, it is the last choice.
Not at the program to get the exact names of all these choices - sorry. And I
think here is where you choose exp as the format. Gads! I can't remember - oh
well.

OK or whatever to get out of there and I closed the file. Now open all the
files of the names you want to sew! Click File and then "all designs to
queue". I found that it was a little difficult if the queue list already had
something in it, so clear out that first and the next steps will be easier.
Now in the queue window in the OS (I supose that is where we are now), click on
settings and you'll see some choices. I selected Auto Load next name, and
there are others you may want to click like delete on loading. I think I
clicked on the first file to select it and it loaded to the machine. It only
shows one name, not all the names one on top to another.

In the color threads selection, go ahead and select the proper needles and then
add a HOLD as the last thing. Now the whole design will sew and it will stop
after the last stitch. Put on the next hoop and hit the green start to resume
sewing.

Doing it this way gives you great control. You can see which name is going to
sew next. If you have 30 golf shirts for a tournament and your have 4 colors
and every size, but BOB is a green shirt in size 4x, you can pick that shirt
and proceed with confidence to sew the right name on the right shirt.

The only thing I found I kept wanting to do was trace and it won't do that.
Just on the first one.

This is too cool, guys! If you aren't using this feature, you will save a ton
of time by taking the time to learn it and then use it. I am a rank beginner
with DS, although I have been digitizing for 2 or 3 years, and it has taken me
just 2 days to get to this point. How time flies when you are having fun! I
ran the machine at 1500 spm because the whole design was all satin stitches
(columns). Take about blazing. And every item was perfect. Had maybe 3 or 4
thread breaks (one of the threads is Rayon and, frankly, it is just not strong
enough for the speed).

Life is good,

Juli in Kona
