Dianne, A Color Change Stepper Index Error is telling you that your needle case has stopped somewhere between the center of two needles and that the machine has lost the road map to which way it has to go next. Now, what has caused the needle case to stop where it is should try to be determined or else you will continue to get this error due to it being caused by the same problem. It could be caused by, but definitely not limited to, some of the following: Something physical has stopped the needle case from moving Needle case Index Sensor is dusty or dirty due to lint or oil Needle case Index Sensor is malfunctioning Needle case Index Sensor is loose Needle case is loose A software glitch has confused the color change motor and now it's dumb Mother Melco, queen of all Amaya, on the red planet Saurer, is calling her children home Chances are it's either a dusty sensor or a software glitch. A quick way to try and recover from this is to hit the E-Stop button and then release. Her natural tendency is to move the needle case in one direction or another until she finds a needle's center and then stops. If your problem was a fluke thing, then you can now go about your business. If this doesn't fix your problem, you should try and re-boot. No, don't kick the machine, just turn it off and then on again. If this error continues to plague you and your loved ones, you should consider squirting some clean air just between the lower portion of the needle case and the machine - just above the presser foot. It's a tight spot but if you move the needle case to needle 16 and access it from the left with the thin plastic tube that comes with a can of air, you should be able to reach the area with no problem. (You also might choose to move the pantograph all the way back so you don't poke yourself in the eye with a hoop arm.) This is where the, black in color, plastic Index Sensor, with it's four colorful wires attached, is located. Blowing air through this sensor is part of one of the maintenance timers, although I forget which one. It's an optical sensor which means it uses a light beam, too small to see, and if the beam is blocked by something, say a small piece of dust or a drip of oil, it can fool the machine into doing something silly. Maybe on future Amaya, this sensor will be covered to some degree or located in a less susceptible area on the machine. Let's cross our fingers. Good luck to ya'. Ed Ed & Maralien Orantes E.M.
