Very interesting info on the tube of cloth. Explains
why the small and medium long sleeve tees are barely
any difference in size.

Teeshirts are made from a 'tube' of cloth-that's why
there is no side
seams. BUT, they use the SAME size tube for multiple
size shirts.
Your smaller kid sizes , baby and 2-4, might be one
'tube', 6-8 and
10-12 might be the same, and so on.
