My best sucess with these types of materials were run with (yes) heavyweight 
tear-away backing, BP needles (light ball), and slooow machine speed.  The slow 
speed helps to keep the threads from pulling soooo tight.  This IS iffy area 
here, so try many things on damaged articles or scraps before you go doing it 
on cust. goods.
