Hi Ron,

The Tension Gauge is made by Towa. You want the model TM-1 or "L" style. I
did a search on the Internet using Google on Towa Bobbin Tension and came up
with several places that sell them.

Interestingly enough, I have been using the drop method for the entire time
I have worked at Melco. The 2-4 inches is about 18 - 20 grams of pull using
the gauge. I set most of them here at Melco for the testing I do a little
bit looser. I set the bobbin just at the point where when you snap you wrist
it may fall and continue to fall real slow or stop after a few inches. This
is about 15 to 17 grams on the gauge.

The gauge is very easy to use and perhaps will make things a little more
consistent. But, I can do the drop test and have it within 1 or 2 grams
every time. The gauge is around $70.00. I am not sure it is worth the money
or not if doing the drop test works?
