Simply due to the fact that the bristles are made from actual horse hair and not nylon fibers that would melt when dipping them into solvents or acids. You can buy a bag of 10 at Home Cheepo for about a dollar. Yes, that's right, they are cheap and disposable. Unless you are talking to a horse. Also, when I put grease on the take up lever cam, I use my finger. Personally I find the brush gets grease all over the place. You could also use a Q-tip if you have 'em. Just make sure you're using the "POLYMER" grease for the 10 million maintenance procedure and not the multipurpose grease. Hope this helps.
