Speaking for an AmigaOS-like hosted gcc: the "/gg" wasn't such a bad idea
because
it put everything associated with the compiler under a common tree. AmigaOS
is not Unix, and we don't have anything approaching "usr:local" on an Amiga.
When I built my own little GCC 2.95.3 port I chose "/gcc" as the prefix because
you could make the entire toolset work by adding one single assignment
("assign gcc: work:gcc") and one path ("path gcc:bin add"). It ought to be
simple, and if we tried to emulate stuff from the Unix domain, there ought be
more value to it than just having a similarity in the path name.
