Subject: how I buy a ‘ghost phone’

My Kyocera flip phone is about dead…
It barely holds any battery life and half the buttons don’t work.
It had one too many drops on the ground.
So, the time has come for me to buy a new flip phone that won’t exist with any
ties to me.
Some people call them “burner phones” and others call them “ghost phones.”
No matter what you call it, here’s how I’m going to buy my new phone that can’t
be traced to me…
First, you need to go to a place like Walmart or Target or Radio Shack that
sells prepaid phones.
Then pick up the prepaid flip phone of your choice.
I bought mine so long ago from Walmart, I think I got it for $9.88.
I think they now cost around $30.00.
After you’ve picked out a flip phone, then choose some of the minute cards.
If you’re going to use this phone for a long time, you’re going to want to put
a ton of prepaid minutes on it.
If you’re just going to use this for your latest drug deal (I hope not) you
won’t need that many minutes.
With your phone and minutes in hand, stroll up to the cashier to pay.
This next part is very important – tell the cashier you’d like them to activate
the phone for you.
They’ll probably roll their eyes because you’re making them do some work, but
do not take the phone home and activate it yourself.
The cashier will activate the phone and will ask you what area code you’d like
the phone to have.
So, pick a random area code ahead of time that you’ll give them.
Next, they’ll ask you if you want another phone number or email associated with
the phone.
Just say no.
Then the phone will be activated and make sure you pay cash for it, do not use
your credit card.
That’s it.
It’s pretty simple and the phone will have no link to you.
And every time you use it, people will look at you like you’re from another
planet since you’re using a flip phone… which I’m certainly okay with.
