Thugs use cell jammers to isolate and

terrorize you
 |

Stacy S. was attending college in New York. During the holidays she drove home
to see her family in Pennsylvania.

But the drive didn’t go as planned…

She was driving home during the evening hours, and it was dark outside except
for the other cars on the freeway.

While driving, Stacy noticed a dark sedan that stayed behind her for a long
time.

She watched as the car changed lanes with her, always staying close. When she
sped up, so did the car behind her. When she slowed down, the car did too.

It became clear to Stacy that the car was following her.

After she realized she was being followed, Stacy called her mom. As soon as her
mom picked up, the call went dead.

Next, Stacy called her dad. He picked up but the phone went dead again.

She called them both several times and each time the signal dropped the call.
Stacy was frightened and alone.

Not knowing what else to do she called 911.

Stacy told the dispatcher what was going on. They told her to keep driving
until she was pulled over by a state trooper.

She stayed on the phone with the dispatcher until she noticed the trooper
pulling her over. But the dark sedan that had been following her was gone.

The trooper checked on Stacy and told her that she was likely the victim of a
cell jammer.

He explained that these devices are portable and will indicate that there is no
signal. It prevents the phone from communicating with the cell tower.

But the trooper said that some signal jammers are unable to block emergency
calls such as 911.

The scary thing is that it’s likely someone was following Stacy and waiting for
her to pull off the freeway to get gas.

Who knows what their intentions would have been, but it likely wasn’t good.

The trooper also explained that if the person following her was using a jammer,
they were able to see when she called 911 and got away.

These days our society has become increasingly dependent on wireless
technology. We make calls, surf the internet, and check email with our cell
phones.

But a signal jammer can bring this all to a stop.

Cell signal jammers work by emitting high-powered noise and pulses that
interfere with nearby receivers.

This was first done to disrupt radio communications.

But these days the same principle is used to disrupt other types of signals
such as cell phones.

Considering this, here are a few techniques that can help you get past a cell
phone jammer.

Create distance:

In the case of Stacy, the person behind her with the jammer had to stay very
close, because signal jammers are limited by range.

Depending on the quality of the signal jammer they can work between 30 feet and
a few hundred feet.

The best thing to do is to drive or walk away if you think someone is using a
signal jammer.

If you are driving, you should be able to create distance rather quickly,
unless the person is following you like in the case of Stacy.

Of course, a good idea is to drive to the nearest police or fire station.

Use Wi-Fi:

Most jammers are designed to block cell signals, but they don’t necessarily
target Wi-Fi.

In other words, you can make calls and send text messages over Wi-Fi. To do
this you would need an app to make calls using voice-over IP.

A few apps that use Wi-Fi instead of your cell signal are Google Voice, Vonage,
and Skype. These three specific apps work independently from your cell phone
plan.

Multiple frequencies:

In the U.S., Verizon and U.S. Cellular use CDMA technology.

But AT&T, T-Mobile and most of the rest of the world uses GSM.

GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communication. Most cell phones that
use GSM are quad-band, which means the phone can work on multiple frequencies.

Most cell jammers block one frequency.

So, if you have a GSM phone you are more likely to still be able to use your
cell even if there is a jamming device nearby.

A cell jammer is a simple tool that broadcasts noise interference on the
frequency of a cell phone.

Most jammers are inexpensive or even homemade. They aren't up to par with the
military cell jammers that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

It’s an effective tool, but with a little knowledge, there are ways to get
around jammers.

If you think you might be a victim of a cell phone jammer, getaway and notify
law enforcement as soon as possible.
