One more thing, I was thinking because your equipment was new, perhaps the

  When you put a CD in the top drive, does your windows media player
    prompt you to play using windows media player, if not, press the alt key 
and arrow down to that choice, hit enter and see if it'll play.If you put it 
into the second drive, which is the E drive, the same thing should happen, it 
should prompt you to play by using the windows media player, when you hit 
enter, it should play.  Are you sure the disc you're using is a good one with 
something on it.  If this doesn't help, you need to get Dell back out.  Sorry, 
you're having problems and I hope I'm not a day late and a dollar short (smile)

    Hi, Everyone,

    We are having a complicated (I think) problem with our computer.  For quite 
a while, neither the DVD drive or the CD write drive have been working.  Dell 
replaced both drives thinking they might be faulty.  Of course, we have run the 
add hardware wizard.  Both drives show in the device manager and both drives 
have properties.  However, when we put a music CD in either drive, nothing 
happens.  If we look at "My Computer" when a CD is in the drive, the drive says 
insert disc.

    Even though one drive is set to play through winamp the disc simply turns.  
If we go into winamp access play and enter on audio devices the CD will play.

    We cannot use the drive to run or install a program.

    We have spent a huge number of hours on the phone with Dell to no avail.  
Has anyone heard of this problem or have any suggestions about what we might 
try?

    We don't use the CD rom drives often but would like them to work when we 
want to use them.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
