Thanks Margaret.  Freedom Scientific tec supportwas able to fix it.  A Dell 
update was the problem.

    Hello,
    JAWS is not speaking on my lap top computer .  It is not shutting down 
properly either.  There is a message, Ending Tea Timer.ex.  I hit "E" to end 
the program and then my computer will shut down.  JAWS will finally speak as my 
computer is shutting down.  
    Appreciate any help.
    I'm sorry if you receive this twice, I might be having trouble with comcast 
and free lists again.
