Great article about Prof. John Gardner founder of ViewPlus , inventor of Tiger.

Technology helps the blind see
John Gardner had a simple reason for founding his company, ViewPlus, which specializes in transforming visual information like graphs and charts into a format that blind people can understand.

“We had to do it, or it was not going to get done,” he said.

Gardner, a former professor of physics at OSU, lost his sight in 1988, following glaucoma surgery. When he returned to work he found it was extraordinarily difficult to continue his career studying solid-state physics with the science and mathematics tools available for the visually impaired at the time.
