Hi Jasmine, there are some quests that you complete that will result in you earning a few Esper. Though if you want to build the really cool, high-income shops, especially the ones that increase your food, you might want to make a couple of very strategic purchases of Esper. At almost all levels, there is an option to expand your castle under Build, Upgrades. Once you've expanded your castle, you'll be able to build a couple more shops at each level, so again, it's worth being a bit strategic about which ones you decide to build. Your population will grow automatically as you expand your castle.
