I don't see any reason a tablet, such as the iPad, couldn't be used as a
laptop replacement and be used to write large papers, especially when
you attach a bluetooth keyboard to them. Tablets today definitely have
the computing power to be used as a laptop and perform this task adequately.

I think the problem with the iPad is the lack of accessible office suite
apps. You'd pretty much have to use Pages, and it isn't as easy to use
for the blind and as feature rich as accessible office suites available
on a PC or even a Mac. I believe someone else on this thread pointed
this out and said that Pages on the Mac is a better application for this
task than the Pages app on the iPad. I'm not a Pages user, so I'm just
basing this on what I've read on this and other lists. A Pages user
could give more details or could contradict me.

It's also a bit harder to get the final paper off of the iPad. You'd
have to use iTunes to get it to your PC/Mac or leverage the cloud to
share it with others and collaborate on it.

This is all just my $0.02.
