Sorry about the wrong information. Like I said, I don't use it, so I don't know. I was under the impression that sighted users could buy books using the app.

I don't think the fact that you can't buy a book through the app impacts it's accessibility. A sighted user can't buy a book through the app either. Blind users can use Safari or the Amazon app to buy books, just as sighted users can. These routes are both accessible. Once you buy a book, you don't need to download it to your PC and copy it to your
iPhone. You can access it directly from the iPhone. For instance, I know we can't download books directly onto the iPhone--we have to get them on a computer and then we can access them in the app. BTW, I forwarded the original email to both the NABS list and he list for Louisiana blind students. I intend to forward it to the NFB Writers' Division mailing
list as well. ----- Original Message ----- From: Christopher Chaltain <chaltain@xxxxxxxxx To: accessible-ios@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date sent: Wed, 07 Aug 2013 20:17:41 -0500 Subject: accessible-iOS Re: amazon requesting waiver of accessibilityrequirements for e-readersMaybe I'm missing something, but I think if Sony and amazon had readers that weren't accessible then that's exactly why they'd want such a
waiver from a law requiring that there readers be accessible.BTW, Sony does have a ereader, and Amazon does have accessible products,
such as their Kindle app for the iPhone. On 08/07/2013 08:03 PM, Tony James wrote:You're right Will and as far as I'm concerned, Sony and Amazon have nothing to complain about. Their products aren't even accessible so

requirements for e-readers Hi all,I thought the following would be of interest to many of you. Amazon and
Sony are trying to request an accessibility waiver for e-readerdevices. Below I am posting links to the FCC documents and procedures for commenting, I strongly suggest that people take the time to do this,
it's definitely a step in the wrong direction. Information below. Cheers, Donna http://www.blindbargains.com/bargains.php?m=9286Request for Comment on Petition for Class Waiver of Accessibility Rules
for ACSOn August 1, 2013, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) released a Public Notice requesting comment on a petition filed by the Coalition of E-Reader Manufacturers. The Coalition requests that the Commission waive its rules requiring equipment used for advanced communications
services (ACS) to be accessible by people with disabilities. TheCoalition states that, although e-readers are equipment that consumers
can use for ACS, they are designed primarily for reading. To distinguish e-readers from tablets and other devices that would not be subject to the waiver request, the Coalition requests a waiver for
e-readers that have the following features: (1) they have no LCD screen; (2) they have no camera;(3) they are not offered or shipped to consumers with built-in ACS
client applications and their manufacturers do not develop ACSapplications for their respective devices, though the devices may
include a browser and social media applications; and(4) they are marketed to consumers as reading devices and promotional
material does not tout the capability to access ACS. Comment Deadline: September 3, 2013 Reply Comment Deadline: September 13, 2013 Links to the Public Notice (including filing instructions):(PDF) http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-13-1686A1.pd
