Hi,

is this apple care same as for something I pay $10 a month for, thinking it 
might be like insurance with AT&T, would they have something to replace the 
battery or is this strictly done with Apple? If so,how does one get this 
apple care?

It may be that you have a dying battery. If you do, and if you're not under 
AppleCare, you'll have to pay to have it Replaced.
