Hi!
By audio books do you mean books in m4b format or just simple mp3 with audio book tag set in iTunes?

Hi Jeff

This is incorrect, the audible at the can play audiobooks in your iTunes
library providing you switchless functionality on within the audible at and the
books are in the correct format i.e. they are audiobooks in iTunes. Audible
will search a library and will place any books it finds in the iTunes had.

Well, the Audible app is great, but as you correctly state: The
Audible app only works for Audible books that one has purchased from
them. I want an app that works similar to the Audible app only it
will download (or import) books from one's network or Dropbox or it's
own import facility. In other words, I want something that would
function similar to my VRStream whereby I copy a folder containing mp3
files for an audiobook to my iPod. I want the app to play those files
contiguously and remember my place when I stop the playback. Hope this
makes sense.

I want to avoid iTunes because it's an extreme pain in the ass.

Try audible the only issue it may be for you is that only the books
you get threw them will work.
You can't add books.
This isn't directed twoards you but i don't get why people try to
avoid itunes its a very good media player and completely accessible.

Hi. Although the native music player is very simple to use! You
would lose your place in the book if you were to close the app from
the app switcher or even accidentally skip a track. Does the other
music player remember your track position after you close the app
from the app switcher?

The built-in music player actually does a great job playing mp3
books. It
doesn all the things you want accept have jestures. Drop box has
it's own
book plaer. When you click on a book you have in drop box it opens
it's own
player and plays the book. It also works well and is accessible. I
don't
know of any way to choose a different or default player with drop
box other
than it's own. The other one I do use is called Instant Player. It
you put
mp3 book in the search feild it's about the 2nd or 3rd one in the
list on my
phone. In the store it's called Instant mp3 and bookmakr player i
believe.
It doesn't have jestures, but the buttons are always in the same
place. It
also has a sleep timer. It's accessible. Books do resume where you
left off,
but you can also set bookmarks to return to various sections or
text if you
want to. Of course if you listen to audible books the audible is
the best
book player out there. it has everything but jestures including
sleep timer
and you can speed up the play back of your book if you want too.

Is there an iOS app that works well for playing mp3 audiobooks? It
should be able to:

1) import the mp3 files that comprise the books from the network
or
through something like Dropbox.
2) play all the files in the book's folder contiguously (without
stopping between files).
3) remember your place in the book (resume).
4) easily skip back a few seconds, preferably using a gesture so a
button does not need to be located.
5) be accessible using Voiceover.

Additional desirable features would include bookmarks and resume
for
multiple books.

If there is such an app, please provide the name with enough
distinction to be able to locate it in the app store. Also, if
possible, tell something about how it works, especially with
respect
to importing the books.

Thanks,
Jeff
