Depends on what you mean by "like bluetooth". It's wireless, like bluetooth or wifi, but I'd say it's more like RFID. It's used to transfer data between two objects that are just a few inches apart. One of the objects, called a tag, can be powerless, so it can be contained in a poster or card. It's meant for the quick transfer of small amounts of data, such as coupons, identification keys, financial transactions, configuration data, business cards and so on. I've heard they may be releasing a plastic addition of the iPhone which is going to be cheeper, I've heard it may get NFC capabilities, and the one I hear most communally is that it will look like the iPhone 5 just a little faster.
