This is a Netbook, a small form factor inexpensive laptop with no CD drive, optimized to do everything over the net. They have good battery life and cost $400 or so. Of course there are more expensive ones.----- Original Message ----- From: "ridge007@xxxxxxxxxxx" <Ridge007@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <accesscomp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2009 9:48 AM Subject: [accesscomp] Re: Swap FN and Control keys on Your MSI Wind What is MSI Wind? This freeware bios mod wasdone by a guy in Russia. Fascinating and takes all the mystery and difficulty out of the process. even better, it actually works! Note: If you are a JAWS or Magic user this does not cause you to lose your activation, which is wonderful. Also it's important to remove all power from the unit before rebooting. If you don't then the first time you boot the keyboard won't work. As soon asyou pull the battery and the plug everything is fine. Okay, here's the post. Reg For those people who don't know about their BIOS version or prefer fully automated tools, I've made a software package which performs BIOS patching completely without any user interaction; you can download it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/157977116/SwapCtrlFN.zip.html Usage: 1) Turn off your Wind, detach battery, plug the AC cable in, then turn the Wind on. 2) Unpack the archive content to any folder. 3) Run SwapCtrlFN.cmd batch file; don't turn the power off until it's finished! 4) Your Wind's keyboard is locked now - it's OK, so turn your laptop off using touchpad or Power button. 5) Disconnect the AC cable and wait >10sec. 6) Done! Now you can attach battery back and turn your Wind on as usual. Note1:To use this package, you should have local administrator privileges on yourWind (required to AFUWIN) - if your don't know what is it, you surely already has it . Note2:After the package execution, you'll got 2 new files in it's folder: BIOS.bin is an original BIOS image, BIOSmod.bin is modded image with swapped Ctrl andFN keys; you can use them at your own or delete. Hint: To swap Ctrl <> FN keys back, your can run SwapCtrlFN.cmd again . Disclaimer: Such a BIOS modding is an unofficial hack - use it on your own risk! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author: Darkhorse [ Fri Oct 24, 2008 9:42 am ]__________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 3829 (20090205) __________The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com
