Well first, there are a lot of good folks on the list. Nick Danger, the two Genes, the moderator just to name a few that pop in to mind.

Secondly, sounds like an interesting set of studies Joseph. I could see you starting your own company with that sort of background. Definitely keep me in mind for beta testing your products.;)

Hi,
Pat, that could be a good idea...
I am a sophomore in computer science. My research interests are computer
accessibility for visually impaired, particularly screen readers and
operating systems, assistive embedded hardware such as BrailleNote and PAC
Mate and its usage, as well as teaching computer science more effectively. I
sometimes research about networking and standards such as WiFi and
Bluetooth, computer hardware trends such as CPU and storage devices and so
forth.
Cheers,
Joseph

Seriously Pat, install something different on that bad boy and teach
yourself another operating system like Linux or FreeBSD. Once you can clear
the Linux hurtles you can dig in to fun things like running your own phone
switch, web server, mail server, file server or millions of other things all

of which can help on the employment front.

Joseph, way to go, what kind of engineering? I started out as a physics EE
double major but diverted in to computing / networking for my profession.

Hi Scott,
There are engineering students like myself here... Thanks for your help on
this list..
One more suggestion for Patt: if you decide to go further with computer
knowledge, I seriously recommend using the second computer as an
experimental machihne...
Cheers,
Joseph

There are many who do on this list though. I've been a network engineer
for

17 years and involved with computing one way or another for 10 years
before
that and I know some others on this list are engineers as well. This list
is

a good resource.

Why get rid of your old computer? It's still useful! You could
install
linux or have a second backup machine or use it for file / print
serving,

any number of things.

If you want to though you can simply execute a
format c:
from your drive. Remember though that formatting doesn't truly
remove
the data, it still can be recovered. One thing you could do is simply
remove the hard disk and get rid of the rest of the computer or remove
the hd and damage the disk somehow either by cracking it open or I've
heard a microwave works.;) Back in my questionable past when we wanted
to

erase an hd before the feds arrived or while they were breaking down the door we would use a heavy magnet like off a demagnetizer but not sure if
that still works.

Put in the disk, go to my computer, highlight the disk, hit alt for
the menus and go under tools, you'll find format there.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Where is the reformat
function? For some reason I have forgotten where this is on my XP
machine. I thought It was on the applications button however it is
not.
