Outlook Express - Compacting Mailboxes

Compacting mailboxes in Outlook Express can save valuable hard drive space.
Compacting mailboxes does not alter access in any way. It simply removes excess
space from the mailbox files. This procedure is non-destructive.

1. Open Outlook Express.

2. From the keyboard, press alt plus the letter t and hit the letter o.

Mouse users, In the menu bar, click Tools and select Options.

3. From the keyboard, Press shift plus tab once to reach the "general" tab
control.

Then right arrow nine times to reach "maintenance."

Mouse users, In the Options window, click the Maintenance tab.

4. From the keyboard, press alt plus the letter c for "clean up downloaded
messages/clean up now."

Mouse users, Click the Clean Up Now button.

5. From the keyboard, press alt plus c for "compact."

Mouse users, in the Local File Clean Up window, click the Compact button.

6. The mailboxes are now compacted.
