Hi,
You should have gone into the setup and restored defaults to get the hdd
back up and running.
As I said, ignore 1394 as it refers to the firewire ports.
Have you attempted to now install the Intel network drivers?

That was a bit frightening.
I think we have upgraded the bios now.
Only slight reservation is that when the system restarted, some of the
bios settings were lost and it would not find the hard drive.
So, we went in to the bios and, when we finally got it booted got a
message to say that the upgrade was successful.
Unfortunately, though, still no network connection.
Now, in devicemanager other devices there is an ethernet device, type
unknown no drivers.
It has attempted to establish a connection it calls 1394 which does not
work, selecting the repair options gives the message that it could not
varify an ip address.
Using ipconfig returns no ip address.
Removing the network cable does not bring up a message in the sys tray
that the cable is unplugged.
I think that the card is not being recognized or even seen by xp.
I did try to remove the connection that it had tryed to create in order
to start again but it will not be deleted as it claims to be active.
So, any ideas before I find a big hammer?
