Determined and very clever hackers create spywaire programmes then make them
available on the net. Not so clever meddlers and kids get these programmes and
play about with them, screwing up everyones pc well being. I would like a
really good piece of programme that blocks and returns anything that is
attacking my pc, one that eats spyware programmes then tells the owner that
they are w**kers would be ideal.

hahaha Barry I like the analogie! yeah, I've noticed after booting up my
machine that zone alarm has stopped a good 100 or so attacks to my computer.
i'm sort of surprised really as, where on earth are all those attacks coming
from? Mind you, zone alarm states that most of them are minor attacks.
  it's baffling really.

  > You're not being over-dramatic. I recently hooked up to broadband but,
luckily, I had a firewall and virus checker installed first. Within five
seconds there was five attacks on my machine. Before I had the critical
Windows downloads done, there were over 80 attacks that were stopped by the
firewall. It's like walking the streets of Kingston, Jamaica at night. If
you have to do it, make sure you have at least two very tough friends with
you who know what they are doing.
