Hi David,

Thanks for the info - it's much quicker than using properties. I'd still like to know what's causing the varying number of folder files though. Jaws keeps on mentioning "horizontal scroll bar" as I'm arrowing down a list which it didn't do in XP. Do you think this could be significant or a complete red herring?

a status bar option on the View menu, which should be checked,
