Hi Dave

If you set the View option for Detail and then set Window-Eyes to Current Index 
it should show you how many files there are in a folder.  To do this:

Go to the Voice Control Panel
Select the Verbosity menu
Down Arrow to "Miscellaneous"
Tab to "Current Index" and check it.

I am running Windows 7 and Window-eyes 7.2.
