I should really qualify what I said.
At the beginning of this explanation, you say that the web sites run
OK when JAWS is not running, but when you run it, they don't run. You
then come to the conclusion you that you may end up buying a new
computer. From your explanation, it sounds like the screen reader is
to blame, not the computer to me. I think both Hal and Window-Eyes
are more stable than JAWS nowadays.

problem is. I don't reckon JAWS is all that stable any more in

Hi there,
Hoping someone can help me with this enfuriating and exasperating
problem.
Some websites make my PC switch itself off and do a restart. This only
happens when JAWS is on. If someone visits the websites when JAWS is
not on, there is no problem at all.
I'll explain it a bit more in a second but has anyone else had this
problem?
It's all to do with certain websites.
Sometimes when I land on a website the computer will do a restart
before even letting me arrow down into any of the page. On other
websites, however, like the 'My eBay' section in eBay, it causes the
computer to restart when I arrow down to a certain line on the page.
Also: I used to visit UKNova.com with no problem whatsoever until
recently. Now as soon as I land on the site the computer does a
restart. Interestingly here though I decided to delete all cookies and
I was able to look at the front page of UKNova without any problems.
TO use the service tho, you need to sign in. As soon as you sign in,
you're directed to a different part of the site, the website drops a
cookie onto the hard disk and bang bang the computer automatically
does a total system restart. Not sure, then, if the issue here is to
do with the cookie or something else.
I am confused and irritated beyond belief and the more I surf the web
the more websites I'm coming across that switch my PC off.
Other things I've done is delete all the history. It did nothing. It
also didn't help when I upgraded to service pack 2.
Please please please if someone can give me any ideas or insight into
what could be going on I'd be so immensely grateful.
I'm already seriously considering just buying a new computer which
clearly is a silly reaction to this problem. Oh and incidentally I
seem to have plenty of memory.
