Hi all Mark Smith, Equipment and Information Centre advisor at Norfolk & NorwichAssociation for the Blind, is investigating way-finding systems for the newNorwich Bus Station which underwent major re-development a couple of years ago and now consists of a number of bays with poor signage, a large open plan area and a generally noisy environment. The local Passenger Transport Unit is arranging with RNIB for ademonstration of the talking REACT signs which may help blind and partiallysighted bus passengers to navigate their way around the bus station. A talking tactile map showing the layout of the bus station is also beinglooked at. In order for the County Council to bid for the funding, they arekeen to know if there are any other local societies (particularly in East Anglia) using this system. Mark is aware of talking bus stops in Brighton, talking signs in Hampshire and the REACT system in Birmingham, but wonders if there are others? He would be interested to hear from any other local societies who have the REACT system in their area. He would like to know * About how the system operates * if visually impaired people are charged for the key fobs, which activate the talking signs. * If blind or partially sighted people are charged, what are the charges? * How the systems of issuing the key fobs is administered and if this is undertaken by local societies or mobility shops?
