Virgin do have an early termination fee process and they will calculate it for 
you depending on how far into your contract you are if you have to or want to 
cancel but you will lose money, in the case of Virgin it is a little on the 
high side but cheaper than soldiering on with the contract itself by quite a 
margin.

No idea about Sky but at least 12 and probably 18 months are likely.  You want 
to ask multiple times about this so you get the same answer in my experience.

Hi Billy

At least 12 months, it was when I was with them.  Remember that these people
are ruthless if you want to opt out of your contract, so do be very careful
before signing up.  Once you do, and pass what they describe as their
"cooling off period", you have basically cooked your goose.  If you try to
leave, they will want you to pay the remainder of the contract.  It's just
business practice, so be warned!

Just beware that when you sign up for fibre broadband you will be signed up
on an 18 month contract.
