Hi Billy

I used to subscribe to Sky, and I never had any real problems with them. At
that time, their website was accessible, and I found their disability
service helpline staff very nice. My only real gripe, and it still makes me
furious if I start, is the fact they will not allow you to really choose
what you want in your package despite the fact they advertise to that
effect. For example, I wanted all the sports channels and broadband,
nothing else! I had BT for my phone, and I did not want all the trash
channels that repeat the same old stuff day in, day out. But Sky would not
allow me to have just the entire sports channels, broadband, and nothing
else. And, as far as I know, they still don't let you have just the sport.
This is because they want more money off you by providing groups of
categories like the entertainment package, or the knowledge package, or a
children's package. Then you build the sport or movies premium channels on
top of that. This is when the money shoots up. They never let you have
broadband on its own before, but they do now.

So, as far as I am concerned, Sky isn't about choice. They don't let you
pick and choose to your exact liking, and I refuse to pay their ridiculous
prices just to watch Roger Federer grace every court in the land, or get
stuck in about the Champions League. Now if Roger Federer were to invite me
to his matches, or pay for my Sky Sports bill every year, I might take him
up on it, but I somehow don't think that'll happen, do you? (big smile).

Seriously though, I think Sky like to think they are about accessibility and
choice, but they aren't when you start digging deeper. Having said that,
however, Virgin Media seem to be as bad or worse from what I've seen and
know from others.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Jackie, I fear you might just be right.
I actually like the fact of having, tv phone and broadband in one package,
but the price is ridiculous at times, and Virginmedia are one of the worst,

Billy

Hi Billy

Then my advice would be for you to contact Sky and ask how long you have
left on your contract in the first instance. I don't know if where you are
moving to will allow for a dish, so you could I suppose emphasise that fact
to them. But I fear, ultimately, that they will tell you how much you have
left on your contract, and ask you to cough up.

Try not to get involved in a bartering game with them. They will doubtless
tell you they can offer you all sorts of fantastic deals to keep you as a
customer, but if you don't want to be with Sky any more, don't be drawn into
that. Just be polite but assertive that you want to move elsewhere for your
broadband service.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but certainly contact Sky in the first
instance and see what they have to say about the remainder of your contract.

The best of luck.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hi Billy

I've lost the thread a bit, what's happened with you and Sky that you need
advice? Do you want to opt out but don't know how to or something? You can
always ask any company for a copy of their terms and conditions I guess. I
hope we never have to move broadband because it's an utter minefield.

Good luck.

Jackie Cairns

Hi Billy

At least 12 months, it was when I was with them. Remember that these people
are ruthless if you want to opt out of your contract, so do be very careful
before signing up. Once you do, and pass what they describe as their
"cooling off period", you have basically cooked your goose. If you try to
leave, they will want you to pay the remainder of the contract. It's just
business practice, so be warned!

Jackie Cairns

Just beware that when you sign up for fibre broadband you will be signed up
on an 18 month contract.
