I don't think you have had any replies.
I got rid of my iMac last year as I got frustrated by Apple's deteriorating,
for me at least, accessibility performance.
So I am by no means current and others may have more up to date information.
At the last stage I used a Mac there were no free or inbuilt OCR solutions.
The most favoured OCR engine on the Mac was I think Abby Finereader, available
from the App Store, and to my recollection completely accessible with Voiceover.
I also used for a while a pretty odd version of the EyePal scanner with used a
specialised port of the Windows software to make it work on a Mac.
Support for this was extremely lacklustre however and the software stopped
working several Mac OS versions ago as the developers showed no interest in
keeping it updated.
I have heard of people using Docuscan but when I enquired as to its
availability in the UK I received one email back saying they would investigate
this but then heard no more.
It is possible there is a scanning option available with One Note if you have
office but have never tried this.
There used to be a solution called Prism, also I think available on iOS, which
was cheaper than Finereader but according to what I heard from others
presented a more steep accessibility challenge with Voiceover.
On balance I think Abby is your best bet.
At the stage I bought it cost about £75 but this might have been on special
offer.

Subject: [access-uk] using a copier
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can copy text document on a
scanner into my iMac. Or is there a useful guide program that I could read on
the web?
David
