People may not have realized how publicly available PCs are set, but I think
we highlighted that with Brian in the programme giving an informed and
expert explanation as to why the software may not have worked when I tried
it out.

The other thing is that I don't know the reason that some internet cafes
don't have units with usb ports. One explanation I got from a member of
staff was that there were no CPUs in order to ensure they weren't pinched.

I don't know enough to know what the chances are of the key to freedom
infecting a PC when plugged in to the usb port, I was exploring how viable
the product was as a means of giving screenreading access to any computer
anywhere any time.

And thats the point I was trying to make. People may not realise that
publicly available computers may have been set to disable the running of
executable programs on things like USb thumb drives. This will mean that the

Freedom box will not work on such computers.

The other point is people may not be aware that some computers for public
use may not have USB ports. Did you consider that when you coudln't find the

USb port on one of the computers the reason was that it wasn't their in
order to stop people from doing exactly what you were trying to do IE plug
in a USB thumb drive.

And both of the above are attempts to prevent militious users from either
infecting the computer with a virus or putting on programs to monitor usage.

I'm not criticising, the work that all of you on intouch do is really
important for our community, I just was surprised that you didn't mention
this. I've never used a public computer so know very little about the way
they work.

But to move this on a little should internet cafaes and other public
computers have to allow VIPs the right to plug in a thumb drive to allow
them to access their computers? My own view is that because of the concerns
over viruses and monitoring software there needs to be some negotiation
before a VIP goes and plugs in such a device.
