Hi,

Yes the Email service will be ending. While I think that is a step
backwards, I kind of understand it. These files will be getting bigger and
bigger with the new formats.

All the best

Steve

Hi Jackie
Did you receive the email below?
I did reply to Joan but had no reply back!

I was basically asking if they plan to end the email service
But they have not said?

We all know the saying, if not broken why fix it!

I feel if RNIB is short of funds (and they muust be given fact they are
Stopping production of few magazines) why are they now
Wasting time, and funds, on this idea of changing the way
News papers are to be delivered, or accessed.
------------------------------------------------------------------
(copy of email from RNIB follows)

National Talking Newspapers and Magazines (NTNM) officially joined the
Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Group in February 2010.
Since that time, we have been working together to develop technology and
improve access for blind and partially sighted people to national
newspapers and magazines.

As a result, we have been working on new ways to create and present
electronic text newspapers for download. We have now reached a point in
our development work where we would like to invite people to become
involved in testing this first stage. Input on such matters from people
who are already accessing their newspapers electronically is invaluable
to help us develop and improve what we do. Therefore we are looking for
a limited number of people to participate in a short trial to evaluate
and feedback on the developments to date, so that we can shape what we
do moving forward.

We have sent this invitation to all those who have registered for the
electronic text download service from NTNM, and to help you decide
whether you would like to put yourself forward to participate in the
trial, here are a few things to consider:
* Testing will be conducted during March of this year.
* All testers will be required to complete an official
questionnaire detailing their experience on using the service and any
issues found.
* We intend to use email as the principal means of communication.
* Participants must adhere to the terms and conditions of the user
testing programme.
* The daily newspapers which will be available during the trial
are: The Evening Standard, The Daily Express, The Daily Mail, The Daily
Mirror, The Daily Star, The Independent i, The Metro, The Daily
Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, The Sun and The Times.
* A limited amount of personal data will be collected and used
only for anonymous statistical purposes in the final report.
* As places are limited, and depending on the response to this
invitation, RNIB cannot guarantee that everyone who has registered an
interest will be contacted for the next stage of the user testing
application process.
Please note that this trial is being run alongside your current
electronic text download service from NTNM, so you can access all your
usual content as you currently do.

We plan to start the trial shortly and tester places are limited, so we
would be very grateful if you could please indicate your interest within
the next couple of days, or as soon as possible. Please send an email to
newstrial@xxxxxxxxxxx with "RNIB Newspaper Tester" in the subject line,
to register your interest in taking part in the development of this
service.

We hope that you will consider putting your name forward to take part in
this trial, and so help us to shape access to electronic format
newspapers in the future.

Yours faithfully,

Joan Longstaff

Senior Sales and Product Manager
RNIB

I don't quite understand why the newspaper service needed changing. We have
used the download service for a long time, and find it perfectly accessible.
Why change what isn't broken? Could someone please explain?

Kind regards,
