George,

Now I'm a bit mystified. My hard drives are set never to turn off.

I can't find that additional check box anywhere for re-connecting at log-in.

Thanks for the advice. Any more to offer?

Hi Carol,

All good disk drives can be set to turn off after a given
period of time. This is usually done via Power Settings in
Control Panel.

As for sharing the drive, did you check, "re-connect drive
at log in?"

George.

Subject: [access-uk] the new hard drive recently purchased

Hi all,

I have noticed a couple of things about this new Western
Digital hard drive
recently purchased.

First, it appears to switch off when not in use. This would
seem to be
after a fair amount of time. Has anyone ideas as to whether
this is design
or faulty? Second, when I came to use it on my home network
today, I found
that its permissions appeared to have disappeared and I had
to go back to my
desktop and say again that I really did want to share this
drive. Again,
would you consider this to be design or faulty?

Perhaps I'll have to call for technical help but thought I'd
ask on list
first.
